Dear citizens!

A historic event has taken place in this year of the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence.

Kazakhstan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018.

This Council is empowered by the UN Charter to maintain global peace and security.

The election demonstrates Kazakhstan’s standing in the UN and the recognition of our work in the international arena.

Since independence, our country has, through concrete actions, worked to preserve peace, strengthen security and development.

The international community recognized our decision to close the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and renounce the fourth largest nuclear arsenal and their confidence in us reflects Kazakhstan’s rapid development, prosperity and unity.

Dear citizens!

The election of Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is a historic achievement.

It is not only our country’s success, but also Central Asia’s, which has never before been represented in this UN body.

Kazakhstan has been elected as a member of the UN Security Council for the next two years.

It will be a difficult period in international relations.

In addition to long-lasting conflicts, the world is facing an unprecedented level of new security threats.

We will make a significant contribution to finding solutions to these global problems.

Stability and security around the world – that is what we all want for ourselves and our children.

That is why Kazakhstan will use this opportunity to make the future more secure and prosperous.

We intend to ensure that the global community focuses on our proposed initiatives.

These initiatives aim to create a world free of nuclear weapons andto end wars and conflicts.

Kazakhstan will work to achieve this noble goal by 2045 for the centenary of the United Nations.

We will promote the anti-terrorism initiatives that I proposed during the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in 2015.

Kazakhstan will also give new impetus to resolving the issues of water, energy and food security.

These are vital issues that concern us all.

Participating in the resolution of current problems will provide us with an opportunity to develop relationships with many other countries and regions.

Our election to the UN Security Council is a well-deserved victory for the people of Kazakhstan.

It demonstrates how much our nation has developed.

We are grateful to all the countries that voted for Kazakhstan and believe us to be a responsible government that can promote the common values of peace and cooperation.

I am sure our country will honor their trust in our representation at the UN Security Council.

This will be another historic step on the way to becoming one of the most developed countries in the world, helping us to build a secure and prosperous future.I want to congratulate all the people of Kazakhstan on this important event as we approach our 25th anniversary of independence. It is a moment to rejoice for our nation.

The confidence given to Kazakhstan will further strengthen our authority in the world.Congratulations to everybody!
